Wines of the World goes to the movies

London merchant Wines of the World has combined its hand-selling expertise with new technology by introducing video

to its website, winesoftheworld.co.uk.

Visitors to the site are

greeted by a professionally shot short film of co-owner Anthony Jones tasting Saint Veran Domaine Le Crais 2006, a £10.99 wine currently on offer at the merchant, which has branches in Earlsfield and Clapham.

Jones ' business partner Jason Bellis said: "It's only been up a week or so.

"We had an offer from one of our customers who has started up her own business as a film maker. It's one of the improvements we've made to our website and they're going to produce a DVD for us as well."

The clip is being used to help promote the film maker's company and Wines of the World is yet to decide whether to produce new videos for other special offers.

Rosé tinted glasses

I was asked recently what I thought the biggest change had been in wine fashion in the past five years. My answer was unequivocal: sales of pink wines. From being a niche that expanded and contracted with the sunshine, rosé has subtly but steadily become a stalwart of many merchants’ ranges, with Provence firmly at the top and asked for by name.
