Carling Black Fruits, which goes into Tesco stores today, followed by Asda and Morrisons in May, is described as a crisp, clean apple cider with a blend of blueberries, blackcurrants and blackberries.
The new variant, which will be available in a can, will be sold in 4 x 44cl, 10 x 44cl packs as well as a 4 x 50cl price-marked pack planned for the impulse and wholesale channels later this year.
Jim Shearer, Carling brand director, said: “We are pleased to announced the launch of Carling Black Fruits Cider, a move which represents our continued investment in the cider category. Recent data shows the popularity of the fruit cider can market, which has grown exponentially in recent years.
"We’re excited to be able to tap into this market with a product that we are confident drinkers are going to love.”
Canned fruit cider has increased its presence in the off-trade, growing 73% in two years and 35% in the last year alone. Canned fruit cider now makes up 15% of total cider sales, up from 9% just two years ago (Nielsen, MAT value sales, comparing we 28/02/15, we 27/02/16, and we 25/02/17).
