The limited edition Kelpie has been aged in virgin oak casks from the republic of Adygea.
The producer claims the oak imparts extra depth of flavour to the whisky.
The Black Sea oak-aged spirit was married with Ardbeg aged in ex-bourbon barrels to produce the final whisky.
Ardbeg’s general release of Kelpie at 46% abv will have a two-week exclusive in Ardbeg Embassy retailers from the distiller’s annual Ardbeg Day, which this year falls on June 3.
It will then be released to other whisky shops and department stores with an rrp of £98.
A special Ardbeg Committee release, for members of the brand’s worldwide club of devotees, has been bottled at 51.7% abv and will be available on March 16.
Distillery manager Mickey Heads said: “With a heart matured in Black Sea casks, this whisky’s extraordinary depth and its waves of salty seaweed and tarry rope, hint at what might be hiding under the sea.
“For now, the finer details of our plans for will remain a closely guarded secret, but rest assured Ardbeg Day 2017 will be another legendary worldwide celebration of all things Ardbeg.”
