The 6.5% abv Castledore, which is made from West Country sharp and sweet apples, is a lightly sparkling, fresh and medium-dry cider. The producer describes it as an easy-drinking cider, which pairs well with food.
Fowey Valley Cider’s owner, artisan cider maker Barrie Gibson, first started making cider 20 years ago. In 2014 he made the leap to commercially release his first cider, the Sparkling Vintage 2012.
The new cider, Castledore, has been named after the Iron Age fort Castle Dore, which stands a few hundred meters from the Fowey Valley orchard.
Barrie only uses traditional, local cider-making methods and apples from orchards within a 40-mile radius from the apple press. He also runs courses in artisanal cider-making.
