Black Stout will be launched at this week’s London beer event, Craft Beer Rising. The beer is described as having undertones of coffee and chocolate and a balanced, bittersweet flavour from a combination of light and dark malts, together with traditional British hops.
The Lewes-based brewer, which will be launching Black Stout in both keg and cans, said the canned format has opened up a whole new market for its beers.
It first explored cans last year when it was asked to supply beer for the British Airways i360 viewing pod in Brighton. It first launched Best Bitter in cans, and the positive response encouraged it to launch a whole range of beer in cans including its Gold Bier, Malt Brown and now Black Stout.
Company spokesman Bob Trimm said: “We believe cans give us the opportunity to engage with a demographic and a route to market that would not have considered us as solely a cask ale producer.
“With our new branding on the cans it created a whole new market for us, with a younger demographic clearly attracted to our beer – some of whom told us they would never have tried it if they’d only come across it in cask.”
