The Abbotts & Delaunay Collection adds eight varietals

21 February, 2017

The Abbotts & Delaunay Collection of premium AOC wines from the Languedoc has been extended to include two new ranges of eight varietal wines.

The new wines will become part of the Abbotts & Delaunay Collection, which currently comprises four Reserve AOC wines and four wines in the premium Clouds & Winds range. The Collection was conceived by fifth generation Burgundian winemaker, Laurent Delaunay, to become the benchmark in premium wines from the Languedoc.

The focus for the new range is on the plants and wildlife that inhabit the land surrounding the vineyards; the eight wines have therefore been divided into two sub-ranges: the Wild Fruits range and the Wild Flowers range.

The Wild Fruits range comprises a Grenache rose, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc and the Wild Flowers range of southern French varietals includes a Viognier, Syrah and a Mouvedre.

The 13% abv Merlot from the Wild Fruits range and the 12.5% abv Viognier from the Wild Flowers range have already secured listings with Majestic, both priced at £9.99 for a single bottle or £7.99 for a six mix price.

Laurent Delaunay, creator of Abbotts & Delaunay said: “This new varietal range reflects the enormous respect that we have for the natural environment surrounding all of our vineyards and those of our partner growers and the vital role that it plays in the creation of our wines.’ He continues, ‘This beautifully packaged range provides the prefect stepping stone into the rest of the premium wines in the Abbotts & Delaunay collection which have done so well since their launch back in 2012.”

Breaking up with Burgundy

Making my way through the recent tranche of Burgundy tastings for the much-hyped 2015 vintage, I found myself experiencing a moment of guilt.
