Oslo Håndverksdestilleri’s Akevitt brand is a traditional potato-based spirit infused with botanicals, dominated by caraway.
The Oslo distiller’s product also features locally-foraged ingredients including meadowsweet, heather flower, St John’s wort, dandelion root, angelica root, yarrow, chamomile flower, sorrel, hyssop and horehound.
It is aged for 12 months in American oak.
Norwegian akevitt is traditionally sipped or taken as a shot during a meal, but the new product’s makers say it is gaining popularity as a cocktail ingredient.
Co-founder Marius Vestnes said: “Norwegian akevitt is a distinctive Scandinavian delicacy with a well-deserved reputation. It carries a sense of heritage and tradition of which we Norwegians are very proud.”
The launch completes a trip of products from the producer, following on from its Vidda Tørr gin and the Nordic digestive bitters Marka.
Oslo’s Akevitt is bottled at 41% abv and a 70cl bottle has a £42.50 rrp with distribution focused on selected specialist retailers. Distribution is through Number One Drinks.
