Naked Wines' Angels vote for 'UK's next big Provence Rosé'

09 February, 2017

Naked Wines’ Angels have voted for what the retailer believes will be "the next big Provence rosé to hit the UK" via an interactive wine tasting event.

Bruno Lapierre’s Chateau Saint Hilaire Provence 2016 has been chosen from a line-up of 16 undiscovered Provence Rosé wines and pre-orders have so far totaled more than £30,000.

Naked Wines invited 16 Angels to its Norwich headquarters to taste the 37 different wines and choose their favourite in an interactive tasting that was streamed live to 53,000 people on Facebook.

Just four hours after the event Bruno Lapierre was then added to the Naked Wines website and 600 UK Angels crowdfunded more than £30,000 for the wines. In return for investing in Bruno’s first vintage, the Angels will be rewarded with the first taste of Bruno’s Chateau Saint Hilaire Provence Rosé 2016 with a 37% saving on the listed price.

Eamon FitzGerald, Naked Wines UK managing director, said: “This is a completely different way of buying wine where everybody wins. Every month, our customers invest their hard-earned pennies into talented winemakers, so it’s only right that they tell us where to spend it. Demand for Provence rosé wines has skyrocketed in the UK, so we are thrilled to add a top-notch Provence Rosé to our range, and welcome Bruno on board.”

Naked Wines reports it has seen a 17% increase in sales of Provence rosé over the past year (year to 2 February 2017).

Rosé tinted glasses

I was asked recently what I thought the biggest change had been in wine fashion in the past five years. My answer was unequivocal: sales of pink wines. From being a niche that expanded and contracted with the sunshine, rosé has subtly but steadily become a stalwart of many merchants’ ranges, with Provence firmly at the top and asked for by name.
