It said it sold 4.9m bottles of Prosecco last year, which is 22% up on 2015. It has also seen growth in the wider sparkling wine category, particularly Italian Spumante, through its group ownership with Schenk Italian Wineries.
The company expanded its Menestrello Prosecco brand in 2016 to include a Spumante Bianco and Rose, which are now available in Morrisons.
Buckingham Schenk said it also saw a “significant” increase in sales of its Argentine wines with volume of premium wines up 35% on 2015, led by Vinalba, which sold one million bottles in 2016.
Craig Durham, managing director, commented: “We are proud of our positive results for 2016 and this pays testament to the hard work of the whole company. Despite the uncertainties of the UK wine market we have been trading for over forty years and are looking forward to continued growth ahead as one of the leading suppliers in the industry. We know that 2017 will be another challenging year but we are confident with the full support and strengths of the Schenk Wine Group behind us.”
