Santa Rita jumps aboard the Conviviality train

Chilean producer Santa Rita Estates has joined the Conviviality revolution by signing a UK distribution deal with PLB.

The supplier became part of Conviviality when it purchased Bibendum PLB last year and forms part of a group that also includes Matthew Clark, Bargain Booze and Wine Rack.

PLB serves off-trade retailers across the UK and its key focus will be on championing Viña Santa Rita, the bestselling brand in the domestic Chilean market.

PLB will also distribute core brands 120 Santa Rita Santa Rita Medalla Real, The National Gallery Series and Tres Medallas, along with a few smaller brands plus Wave Series by Carmen.

Andrew Shaw, group wine buying director at Conviviality, said: “Viña Santa Rita is an extremely important addition to our South American portfolio of suppliers. The heritage, scope and universal quality of Santa Rita wines speaks for itself so we are incredibly honoured to be working with these brands in the UK off-trade.”

Rosé tinted glasses

I was asked recently what I thought the biggest change had been in wine fashion in the past five years. My answer was unequivocal: sales of pink wines. From being a niche that expanded and contracted with the sunshine, rosé has subtly but steadily become a stalwart of many merchants’ ranges, with Provence firmly at the top and asked for by name.
