Zymurgorium and Duerr's team up to create gin

Zymurgorium, the Manchester-based distillery, has teamed up with the UK’s oldest family run marmalade producer to create a new gin.

Marmalade-of-Manchester Gin is made by combining Duerr’s Manchester Marmalade (first made over 50 years ago), with lime and lemon, coriander, grains of paradise, Madagascan bourbon vanilla and eight balancing botanicals. The end result is a 40% abv drink “bursting with citrus flavour and with a finishing note of soothing orange blossom”, according to the company.

The gin is produced in-house by Zymurgorium. MD and chief distiller, Aaron Darke, said: “We have been searching for a citrus style for a while and teaming up with a Manchester institution like Duerr’s was the perfect solution.

“The introduction of Duerr’s Manchester Marmalade gives the drink lots of citrus notes on the nose, palate and in the finish. It’s awesome!”

Sales at marketing director at Duerr’s, Richard Duerr, added: “We love to see our products used in different and original ways and this is a perfect collaboration. It tastes terrific.

“We have seen our marmalade used in cocktails in the past, so we knew it mixed well with alcohol. Hat Zymurgorium have done is taken it to the next level. Now people can enjoy Duerr’s Manchester Marmalade from breakfast right through to last orders!”

Marmalade-of-Manchester Gin has a recommended price of £33.50.

I was asked recently what I thought the biggest change had been in wine fashion in the past five years. My answer was unequivocal: sales of pink wines. From being a niche that expanded and contracted with the sunshine, rosé has subtly but steadily become a stalwart of many merchants’ ranges, with Provence firmly at the top and asked for by name.
