Majestic Wine on the hunt for exclusive parcels from suppliers

Majestic Wine is shaking up its strategy to focus once again on exclusive parcels of wine in its stores and online.

These parcels proved popular between 1980 and 2000 as the retailer took on wine from private cellars, Scandinavian state monopolies and private cellars.

As the chain expanded rapidly over the last 10 years they have become less of a feature, but Majestic is now bringing them back.

From September 2016 each Majestic store will have a “When It’s Gone It’s Gone” section, which will hold one-off parcels from suppliers and give customers a rapidly changing range of exclusive wines.

Richard Weaver, head of buying and merchandising at Majestic, said: “A lot has change has happened at Majestic over the past year and this includes our range. We now have the systems in place to offer smaller parcels across our 212 store network and online. We want to hear from suppliers who have exciting wines, no matter what size and how fast they need a sale. We’ve realised these exciting parcels were what made us really special in the past and so I’m delighted we’re bringing them back.”

Majestic is also relaunching its Pacel Series range with a new look. The first wine in the revamped range is a parcel of 8,008 bottles of Tempranilllo Reserva 2008 from the Spanish region of Uclés, which hits stores on August 30.

Hofmeister may need more than the bear essentials to succeed

So, George The Bear is back. It’s hard for some of us oldies to fathom, but there are those under, say, 40 who can’t actually remember Hofmeister and feel the cultural jolt supplied by the return of both the bear and the beer whose marketing campaigns it used to front.
