Laithwaite's opens online wine cellar on eBay

18 August, 2016

Laithwaite’s Wine has opened an online wine cellar on eBay, forming part of the online marketplace’s strategy to build a wine arm in the UK.

EBay officially launched its wine shop in the UK in June this year, aided by platform Worldwide Vines. Its number of wine listings currently totals 3,500, with bottles priced up to £100,000.

Other retailers are believed to have signed up to eBay’s wine service, and the online marketplace also plans to add more retailers in 2017 as it builds its UK presence in this category. The Laithwaite’s offer is part of eBay’s Shops initiatives.

"We're excited to be partnering with eBay to reach a new generation of wine drinkers and look forward to introducing eBay's customers to great-value wines handcrafted in quantities too small for the supermarkets and big retailers," said David Thatcher, ceo of Laithwaite's Wine.

Independent wine merchant Laithwaite’s Wine is part of Direct Wines Ltd.

English wine: a happy harvest for Christmas
