Chapel Down reveals plans to build Curious brewery

Kent wine producer Chapel Down has secured a site in Ashford in the county to build a brewery and cidermaking facility.

The 1.6-acre site is close to Ashford International train station will make products in the company’s Curious Drinks range, which it said grew 50% last year. It will also host a visitor attraction.

A crowdfunding campaign and share issue for Curious Drinks raised £1.7 million earlier this year.

Chapel Down claims Curious Brew lager is the best-selling British craft beer in Majestic.

Frazer Thompson, Chapel Down chief executive officer, said: “We are delighted to have exchanged contracts on a freehold site.

“The Curious Brewery will be a very exciting development for Ashford, for Kent and contemporary British brewing. We’ve had tremendous support from Ashford Borough Council and are looking forward to working with architects Guy Hollaway and developers U+I to create something exceptional.”

Looking back to look forward

Wine is a liquid time capsule. Drinking older vintages not only recalls the weather conditions and winemaking styles of the past, it encourages us to reflect upon our own histories. Such reminiscence often inclines towards romanticised nostalgia. Especially after the second bottle. But looking back is a great way of learning about the future.
