Bibendum adds Rhone’s Cellier des Princes to wine portfolio

Bibendum PLB has has been appointed to distribute wines from Rhone Valley-based Cellier des Princes in all UK trade channels.

Multiple off-trade sales will be through PLB, with independents supplied by the group’s Walker & Wodehouse division. Bibendum will handle on-trade sales.

Cellier des Princes is the only co-operative in the Chateauneuf du Pape region and has 189 growers with 580 acres of vineyards there and elsewhere in southern Rhone.

The range includes Chateauneuf du Pape, Vaucluse, Cote du Rhone, Cote du Rhone Villages, Vacqueyras and Gigondas wines.

The co-operative’s general manager Pierre Cohen said: “It is our aim to work with the leading distributors in each of our key markets to develop the business.”

Alastair Pyatt, Bibendum PLB France buyer, added: “On top of a fantastic quality versus value proposition, Cellier des Princes has the diversity, flexibility and scale which makes it a perfect fit for Bibendum PLB’s requirements for the on and off-trade, and a significant addition to our French range.”

English wine: a happy harvest for Christmas

All across England and Wales, vineyards are being harvested. Down winding country lanes come armies of welly-wearing conscripts wielding secateurs and buckets, ready to reap the rewards of our vines. Happily they come, their cheeks ruddy with pride. Half an hour later they’re crawling over muddy clods with lacerated hands, drenched in claggy juice and cold sweat, as if ploughing through an endurance race.
