Bargain Booze boss among new trustees at The Benevolent

07 April, 2016

Drinks trade charity The Benevolent has appointed four new trustees: Diana Hunter of Conviviality, Guy Lawrence of Mast-Jägermeister UK, Rita Greenwood of William Grant & Sons UK and Simon Difford of Difford’s Guide.

The charity believes these four will bring “an innate understanding of the needs of vulnerable colleagues” within the trade.

They will provide consultation on how to improve the charity’s operations and marketing, while also helping raise its profile in the industry.

Benevolent chairman Dan Townsend, of TreaSury Wine Estates, said: “They are all well-known and highly respected and bring with them hugely relevant experience which will be invaluable at this crucial time in trade charity’s growth. Their appointment is a solid demonstration of The Benevolent’s commitment to on-going expansion and engagement with the wider UK drinks industry community.”

Greenwood has just been appointed managing director at William Grant & Sons UK, with Chris Mason moving to head up its European division, so he is stepping down as a trustee after serving the charity for 16 years.

“I wish to acknowledge the exceptional contribution that Chris Mason has made over the years and thank him for being the architect of the strategic changes the charity made five years ago,” said Townsend.

Chief Executive David Cox added: “I am very fortunate to be guided by a group of excellent trustees who provide solid governance and expert advice and who understand implicitly the ethos of the charity. I am looking forward to working with our four new members of the Board immensely and additionally thank Chris for all that he has done for The Benevolent.”
