Morgenrot adds Txakoli Agerre from Basque country

Morgenrot has strengthened its Spanish offering with the addition of Txakoli Agerre, a slightly sparkling, dry white wine made in the province of Gipuzkoa in the Basque country.

The beer and wine importer has added the wine, which is produced by third generation winemaker Emilio Agerre, to its portfolio of handcrafted wines, beers, ciders and spirits.

The 11% abv wine, which is described as being crisp and refreshing with notes of citrus and green apple, is available in cases of 12 with a list price of £7.96 a bottle.

John Critchley, Morgenrot’s commercial director, said: ““The Spanish food and drink scene is continuing to thrive in the UK with discerning consumers showing a thirst for discovering unique products from some of the lesser known regions. We’re positive this new wine will be a welcome addition to our Spanish stable plus bars, restaurants and retailers around the country. This fresh, citrusy wine has great acidity and minerality and is served from a height to add a soft sparkle to the glass and some theatre.”

The single vineyard, family-owned winery is located in Getaria, thought to be the perfect habitat for the unique Txakoli (Hondarribi Zuri) grape.

Wine is a liquid time capsule. Drinking older vintages not only recalls the weather conditions and winemaking styles of the past, it encourages us to reflect upon our own histories. Such reminiscence often inclines towards romanticised nostalgia. Especially after the second bottle. But looking back is a great way of learning about the future.
