Dundee brewery given green light

10 March, 2016

Dundee is in line to have its first brewery for 50 years after planning permission was granted to a new start-up.

Duncan Alexander and Mark Griffiths hope to have 71 Brewing up and running in a converted industrial warehouse in the city centre by October.

Former Sam Smithís head brewer David Smith is overseeing installation of the 2,400-litre capacity plant.

The £650,000 project has secured funding from Scottish Enterprise, Regional Selective Assistance, the Scottish Investment Bank and private investors.

Alexander said: ďThereís something in the water here that was justification enough for us to establish a brewery in Dundee, beyond the fact that Iím a very proud Dundonian and wanted the city to contribute to the great new beer revolution that is sweeping the country.Ē

What makes wine special

Reaching the 50th instalment of Hemmingís Way is hardly the biggest milestone, but I donít need much of an excuse to pour myself a glass of champagne before getting dressed. Itís a better reason than I had for all 49 other instalments, anyway. Not that that stopped me.
