The series was launched in 2010 and each year a guest hop is used in the brew alongside the regulars Saaz and Styrian Goldings.
This year’s third hop currently goes under the name Experimental HBC 291 and is grown
in the Yakima Valley in the US.
Matthew Willson, Duvel’s UK general manager, said the Tripel Hop series “allows us to give our fans an exciting new beer each year, combining intellectual interest with a cornucopia of vibrant flavours”.
He added that the new hop was “unlike any other hop we’ve ever used, making this year’s brew a really fascinating beer – adding notes of fresh citrus, black pepper, lavender and roses to our traditional Duvel brew”.
Experimental Hop HBC 291 is added in the main brew, and again during dry-hopping to extract additional hop aromas.
Duvel Moortgat will release a limited edition six-pack of all the Tripel Hop brews to date later this year and will encourage beer fans to vote for their favourite, which will become a permanent addition to the Duvel portfolio from 2017.
Duvel Tripel Hop Experimental HBC 291 will be available from Booths and Selfridges at an rrp of £2.79 per 33cl bottle.
