Newcomer targets gin fans and summer drinkers

07 March, 2016

A new gin-based drink has its sites on being the drink of the summer.

The Wingfield, which is described as ‘a Great British Gin Aperitif’, already has listings in Harvey Nichols stores in London.

The drink is a contemporary aperitif, blended to a secret recipe from a small batch London Dry Gin, cucumber, pink grapefruit, elderflower and other fruits and spices.

Creator Simon Weston, said: “Our namesake was an innovator too – Major Walter Clopton Wingfield pioneered lawn tennis in the 1870s and changed the face of British summer, and we’d settle for nothing less. The Wingfield is distinctly different. It’s a modern gin aperitif blended to have a unique signature.”

A marketing campaign for the drink is planned in time for the summer. The “I’d rather have a Wingfield” is designed to target 25 to 40 year-old men and women.

The signature serve is The Wingfield Spritz, which includes chilled soda water and an orange twist.

English wine: a happy harvest for Christmas

Happily they come, their cheeks ruddy with pride. Half an hour later they’re crawling over muddy clods with lacerated hands, drenched in claggy juice and cold sweat, as if ploughing through an endurance race.
