Malbec and Chardonnay varietals are both joining the range with an rrp of £6.99 each.
Bill Roberts, vice president and general manager for EMEA at Gallo, said: “Barefoot is all about being different which is why when we launched we didn’t go with a Chardonnay as people might expect.
“We started with Pinot Grigio which wasn’t perhaps the most closely associated variety with the US.
“We felt now that Malbec is still relatively new to the average consumer and, while Argentina is all about Malbec, it need not have an exclusive on it. It gives Barefoot a point-of-difference from other Californian brands.”
The premium Dark Horse range – currently comprising Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay – will be bolstered by Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot varietals in the third quarter of the year.
Gallo is also adding Peach & Nectarine flavour to its Gallo Family Vineyards Spritz range of 5.5% abv wine-based drinks in June.
It is currently introducing a 1-litre bottle for its New Amsterdam vodka and will be adding a 35cl pack from June.
Roberts said other spirits could play a part in the Gallo portfolio in the UK in future.
“We have to get the right concept,” he added, “so we’ll look and see what works in the US and if it could work in the UK.”
Gallo markets a number of flavoured vodkas and a gin under the New Amsterdam range in the States.
