Majestic Wine offers free Champagne to people born on February 29

23 February, 2016

Majestic Wine is giving away bottles of Veuve Cliquot to leaplings – people born on February 29 – in a promotion to mark the leap year.

A leap year only occurs every four years on average, meaning people born on February 29 rarely get to celebrate their official birthday, but 2016 is one such leap year.

To make it extra special, Majestic is giving away bottles of Champagne to any that bring in proof of their date of birth to stores between February 25-29.

This coincides with a Champagne promotion the retailer is running across its 200-plus stores on these dates where at least 25% will be lopped off the price of all Champagne and free tastings will abound.

All stores will have Canard Duchene Brut NV (Mix Six price £16.65) open to taste alongside a selection of other wines and Champagnes.

Top offers include:  Heidsieck Bronze Top Brut NV (Mix Six price £14.99), Nicolas Feuillatte NV (Mix Six price £15.99), Canard Duchene Brut NV (Mix Six price £16.65) and Veuve Clicquot NV (Mix Six price £29.99).

Majestic said Veuve Cliquot was its bestselling product over Christmas, with £1.5 million in sales, making it a nice gift.

It is searching for leaplings on social media via #findaleapling.

English wine: a happy harvest for Christmas

All across England and Wales, vineyards are being harvested. Down winding country lanes come armies of welly-wearing conscripts wielding secateurs and buckets, ready to reap the rewards of our vines. Happily they come, their cheeks ruddy with pride. Half an hour later they’re crawling over muddy clods with lacerated hands, drenched in claggy juice and cold sweat, as if ploughing through an endurance race.
