With market analysts IRI reporting 72% growth for Prosecco in 2015, Bestway is introducing its Royal Prosecco brand to sit alongside its existing sparkling wine offer, which includes the award-winning Royal Cava and Lelac Champagne range.
Roopinder Toor, licensed category controller for Bestway, said: “At Bestway, we have seen triple-digit growth in Prosecco sales and have been working with suppliers to bring a quality brand to market for the past year. Royal Prosecco is the culmination of that process.
“We are extremely pleased with both the liquid and packaging which promotes the brand’s authenticity.
“Royal Prosecco is produced in Treviso, which has continually proven itself to be the home of the finest examples of Prosecco, and offers bright and fresh fruit flavours that makes it the perfect wine to have on its own or an ideal accompaniment to a variety of dishes.”
Alongside the Prosecco, Bestway is also introducing Villa Principal Rioja Tempranillo to meet demand for Rioja, which is currently growing at 10% year on year.
Toor said: “The shift by consumers to better quality wines is fantastic news for retailers as it means greater cash margin.
“With an RRP of £6.49, Villa Principal Rioja offers a fantastic deal for shoppers but also provides a 20% margin for retailers.”
The growing popularity of Rioja is having a halo effect on the whole Spanish wine category, and Bestway has responded with the launch of a five-strong range of everyday Spanish wines under Toro Riendo label.
Bill Creighton, Bestway’s wine category manager, said: “With the increased consumer appetite for Spanish wines, now is the idea time to launch an own label variant.
“The Toro Riendo name represents the playful image of the brand and the modern graphics will ensure shelf standout with other Spanish wines which can sometimes look a bit dated.
“Independents’ shelves are full of new world wines but Europe still has a key role to play and Toro Riendo is the perfect opportunity for retailers to increase sales and capitalise on the category.”
Bestway has also negotiated an exclusive agreement to distribute France’s Cellier D’Or range of wines in the UK.
