Wine trade supergroup Skin Contact set to return for 2016 charity gig

27 January, 2016

Wine trade supergroup Skin Côntact is returning this year after raising more than £10,000 for Comic Relief in a 2015 charity gig.

Last year the band was formed by OLN columnist Richard Hemming MW, and featured fellow MWs Anne McHale and Alex Hunt, Bordeaux Cellar founder Matt James, Concha y Toro PR boss Ben Smith and PR Helen Chesshire.

They performed a gig sponsored by Côtes du Rhône generic body Inter-Rhône at Vinopolis, which attracted 300 music lovers and led to 828 raffle ticket sales, helping them smash their fundraising target of £10,000.

Responding to “unexpected and relentless demand”, Skin Côntact has been re-formed to play a second gig in 2016. This year’s event will feature: a new rock’n’roll venue, a superstar DJ battle until midnight and all-new singers, including whoever wins the sing with Skin Côntact competition.

In 2016, Skin Côntact is inviting anyone in the wine trade to enter this competition. Budding singers can upload a recording of them singing to one of three songs, and the best performers will win themselves a spot singing with Skin Côntact on stage at the O2 Academy in London’s Islington on Thursday, May 12.

This legendary venue has hosted hosted Muse, The Cure, Eminem, Beck, KISS and Biffy Clyro over the past decade.

The two superstar DJs going head-to-head will be revealed soon.

Hemming said: “I can’t quite believe this is happening. Again. We’ve already got some fantastic wine trade personalities lined up to sing, and I’m stupidly excited about performing at the Islington Academy.

“I’m also hugely enthusiastic about our competition to discover the wine trade’s top singing talent, and want to encourage absolutely everyone in the wine trade to get involved. Skin Côntact LIVE AGAIN! is going to be the wine trade event of the year. Again!”

Skin Côntact is once again made possible thanks to the partnership of Côtes du Rhône wines and the event will kick off with an exclusive Côtes du Rhône tasting available to all ticket holders.

“How could we possibly say no to this roof-raising and fund-raising opportunity?” said Inter-Rhône’s Agnès Heller. “Comic Relief is such a fitting charity for us to support and I fully anticipate that Skin Côntact LIVE AGAIN will once more emerge triumphant as the wine trade event of the year.”

Tickets will cost £20 (plus booking fee) and 100% of the face value will go to Wine Relief, the wine trade fundraising initiative for Comic Relief. They will go on sale in February 2016.

Full details can be found at Visit to get involved in the band.

Hofmeister may need more than the bear essentials to succeed

So, George The Bear is back. It’s hard for some of us oldies to fathom, but there are those under, say, 40 who can’t actually remember Hofmeister and feel the cultural jolt supplied by the return of both the bear and the beer whose marketing campaigns it used to front.
