We Brought Beer forges big plans as a second site opens

06 November, 2015

London specialist beer shop We Brought Beer is forging ambitious expansion plans after opening its second site, close to Clapham Junction station.

The store opened last week, joining the company’s flagship outlet in Balham which opened in 2014.

Founder James Hickson told OLN he hoped to roll out the retail brand to sites further south and west in the capital.

The Clapham site has a beer garden and an upstairs tasting space where We Brought Beer aims to increase its events programme including home-brew sessions for customers.

Hickson said: "We want to give people a better experience of buying beer. We don’t want to be a place where you just stick beer on a shelf and hope that it sells.”

The move ups the ante in speciality beer retailing in the capital which has seen beer shops opened by Oddbins and Croxton’s former employer Brewdog, alongside the emergence of other modern bottle shops such as Clapton Craft in east London.

Hickson added: “We don’t see ourselves as cool and edgy. If we were doing that we would have chosen Shoreditch, not Balham. We’re doing this because we love beer. The product leads us."

English wine: a happy harvest for Christmas
