Hottest chilli vodka in the world to hit UK market

20 October, 2015

Maverick Drinks is launching its hottest chilli vodka yet onto the UK market.

The company claims its 500,000 Scovilles Naga Chilli Vodka is 200 times hotter than Tabasco sauce and twice as hot as its 250,000 Scovilles Naga Chilli Vodka, previously considered the world’s hottest vodka.

The vodka is made from pure wheat spirit and Naga Jolokia chillies, which Maverick reports to be a key ingredient in the chilli-based tear-gas grenades used by the Indian army.

The 500,000 Scovilles release comes in a canister that appears specifically designed to keep people out. "Don't try and open it," the packaging warns. "No good will come of it."

Maverick has also commissioned new packaging for its 250,000 and 100,000 Scovilles chilli vodkas. Bottles of the 250,000 are now sealed with industrial-grade wire.

The 500,000 Scovilles Naga Chilli Vodka retails at £32.95 for 20cl, the same price point as 50cl of the 250,000 and 70cl of the 100,000.

Maverick claims the new release will appeal to fans of the deeply unsettling and almost completely undrinkable.

The Scoville is the internationally recognised scale of pungency or heat in spiced food.

The highest known rating for a chilli is reportedly the HP56 Death Strain, which has a Scoville rating approaching 3 million.

English wine: a happy harvest for Christmas

Happily they come, their cheeks ruddy with pride. Half an hour later they’re crawling over muddy clods with lacerated hands, drenched in claggy juice and cold sweat, as if ploughing through an endurance race.
