Majestic appoints managing director for retail division

25 September, 2015

Majestic has appointed a managing director for its retail division, responsible for the groupís 211 shops including its Calais store.

John Colley joins the company from Praxis Netherlands, a Holland-based DIY chain, where he was chief executive. He has also held senior positions at Kingfisher, working as commercial and marketing director for B&Q and commercial director for Screwfix.

He will report directly to Majestic chief executive Rowan Gormley. Majestic Commercial, Naked Wines and Lay & Wheeler will all be run by other managing directors.

Majestic bought Naked Wines for £70 million in April and made its founder Rowan Gormley chief executive.†

The deal aimed to boost Majesticís e-commerce presence and open up the US and Australian markets for the brand.

The company is due to reveal an update to its strategy plans at its interim results announcement on November 16.

Looking back to look forward

Wine is a liquid time capsule. Drinking older vintages not only recalls the weather conditions and winemaking styles of the past, it encourages us to reflect upon our own histories. Such reminiscence often inclines towards romanticised nostalgia. Especially after the second bottle. But looking back is a great way of learning about the future.
