Jameson aims to attract craft beer drinkers to whiskey

22 September, 2015

Pernod Ricard UK is introducing a limited edition expression created in collaboration with County Cork micobrewery Franciscan Well.

Jameson Caskmates has been created by refilling Jameson casks that were sent to the brewery to be seasoned with its stout.

It will be available in the on-trade and to selected prestige off-trade accounts with an rrp of £26.

The whiskey was trialled in Ireland last year.

Dave Quinn, master of whiskey science at Pernod-owned Irish Distillers’ Midleton distillery, said: “When the stout-seasoned Jameson barrels arrived back at Midleton, curiosity got the better of us and we experimented by maturing our Jameson Irish whiskey in the casks.

“We found that after around six months, the perfect balance of flavor was achieved and we couldn’t be happier with the results.”

Vicky Hoey, head of marketing at Pernod Ricard UK, added: “For the first time ever Jameson and stout come together to create an expression that really represents Jameson’s reputation for passion and heritage, and features Irish craftsmanship, collaboration and innovation.

“With Jameson Caskmates, we hope to surprise and delight existing Jameson drinkers by providing them with an authentic, new whiskey experience, as well as recruit craft beer fans to the Irish whiskey category.”
