Berry Bros opens new cellar

Berry Bros & Rudd has opened a new cellar to host more private wine events at its historic London shop.

The Sussex Cellar is the third cellar to open underneath the shop in St James’s.

Demetri Walters MW, sales manager for private wine events, said: “Our new Sussex Cellar affords us much-needed extra capacity in bringing wine education and entertainment to our clients. This latest venue is of a completely novel design that combines the feel of one of our traditional wine cellars with the exciting architecture, convenience and state-of-the-art gadgetry of a purpose-built venue.”

Berry Bros hosts more than 800 events a year.

The new cellar is named after the Duke of Sussex, who was a regular customer in the early 19th century.

English wine: a happy harvest for Christmas

All across England and Wales, vineyards are being harvested. Down winding country lanes come armies of welly-wearing conscripts wielding secateurs and buckets, ready to reap the rewards of our vines. Happily they come, their cheeks ruddy with pride. Half an hour later they’re crawling over muddy clods with lacerated hands, drenched in claggy juice and cold sweat, as if ploughing through an endurance race.
