Champagne shipments to UK grow 6%

03 March, 2015

Champagne shipments to the UK grew 6.1% in 2014, cementing Britain’s position as the regions top export market, according to new Champagne Bureau figures.

Shipments totalled 32.7 million bottles in 2014, leaving the UK 71% ahead of the second largest export market, the US.

The UK has now held the position as the leading importer of Champagne since 1996.

Champagne Bureau UK director Françoise Peretti said: “We often think of Champagne sales as the barometer of our national economy, and this last year was no exception. When the economic news is better, we drink more Champagne. Of course: there’s more to celebrate.”
