London Wine Fair targets unrepresented suppliers with new feature

The London Wine Fair is targeting suppliers seeking UK representation with a new exhibitor area called Wines Unearthed.

This virtual village can house up to 70 wineries on three square metre pods, and exhibitors are offered a host of networking opportunities for the £1,500 fee.

They will be invited to a seminar called The Road Map to Export to the UK, hosted by wine advisor Robert Joseph, to offer advice on pricing, distribution channels and marketing, on Sunday, May 17.

A drinks reception on the Monday evening – the first day of the fair – will allow exhibitors to network with their counterparts in Esoterica, a feature of the fair which showcases the portfolios of UK-based niche and micro-importers.

On the Tuesday evening Wines Unearthed exhibitors will be able to tour key retailers and wine bars participating in London Wine Week to gain a greater understanding of the UK trade” at the coalface”.

Show director Ross Carter said: “We want to give these wineries a truly immersive experience; whilst the ultimate aim is to generate export leads, we also want them to come away with a much greater understanding of the U.K. trade at large – which, frankly, can be somewhat complicated.”

Looking back to look forward

Wine is a liquid time capsule. Drinking older vintages not only recalls the weather conditions and winemaking styles of the past, it encourages us to reflect upon our own histories. Such reminiscence often inclines towards romanticised nostalgia. Especially after the second bottle. But looking back is a great way of learning about the future.
