Copestick Murray takes on ad guru's wine brand

Copestick Murray has struck a distribution deal with Minervois producer Hegarty Chamans after owner Robin Copestick turned a Q&A session at the annual WSTA conference to his advantage.

Advertising guru Sir John Hegarty, founder of famed ad agency BBH, was addressing the Wine & Spirit Trade Association on how poor marketing is holding back the wine trade. During the talk he mentioned his own estate, Hegarty Chamans, and the Open Now brand it produces.

Copestick seized his chance in the Q&A, asking: “Are you looking for a UK distributor?” before rushing to the front to hand over his business card.

“We’ll definitely have a conversation,” said an impressed Sir John.

Now Copestick and Hegarty have struck an official supply and distribution partnership for the UK and Ireland.

Copestick said: “The moment I heard Sir John speaking at the WSTA conference I knew that this was a person with whom I would love to work.

“Then I tasted the superb quality of his wines and listened to his ideas to create exciting and innovative French wines and I was certain that this was a perfect fit for Copestick Murray.

“The wines are on the way to us as we speak and we have a number of great new ideas to present to all of our customers. This is a great way to start 2015.”

Sir John Hegarty added, “Working with a dynamic, entrepreneurial company has always been the ambition of Hegarty Chamans. That's why we're excited to be working with Robin and his team. I've always believed wine needs less mystery and more magic. I know we'll get that from Copestick Murray.”

English wine: a happy harvest for Christmas

All across England and Wales, vineyards are being harvested. Down winding country lanes come armies of welly-wearing conscripts wielding secateurs and buckets, ready to reap the rewards of our vines. Happily they come, their cheeks ruddy with pride.
