New expressions from Isle of Skye

09 January, 2015

Family-run distillery Isle of Skye has launched two limited editions of its blended Scotch whisky.

An 18-year-old and a 21-year-old expression are to join the brand’s 8-year-old, 12-year-old and 50-year-old – another limited edition of which just 400 bottles have been released.

The 18-year-old is said to have notes of coastal air with gooseberry, cinnamon bread and gentle peat on the nose and light smoke and fresh fruit on the palate, with a malt and dark chocolate finish.

The 21-year-old has a nose of nuts, dried banana and brown sugar, a palate of honeyed porridge and tropical fruit and a long finish of dry rich oak.

They are to retail for £85 and £125 respectively and are available from Harrods and the distillery’s online shop.

Neil Boyd, commercial director of malts for Ian Macleod Distillers, said: “The Isle of Skye Blended Scotch Whisky range was created based on a 19th-century family recipe that blends distinctive peaty island and mellow Speyside malts.

“Unusually for blends, each whisky in the recipe has been aged for a minimum of eight years. The addition of the 18 and 21-year-old whiskies will provide consumers with a superb high-quality alternative to the standard eight and 12-year-old.”

What makes wine special

Reaching the 50th instalment of Hemming’s Way is hardly the biggest milestone, but I don’t need much of an excuse to pour myself a glass of champagne before getting dressed. It’s a better reason than I had for all 49 other instalments, anyway. Not that that stopped me.
