Think Gin takes place on February 9 at Merchant House in London and features bespoke sessions for the on- and off-trades, including debates, workshops and brand showcase sessions.
Gin is consistently showing strong growth, up 6% in value to £360 million in the UK off-trade (Nielsen, year to October 2014) and up 13% in value to £440 million in the on-trade (CGA, year to October 2014).
A raft of new small-batch distilleries crafting interesting gins has made it arguably the most exciting spirits category around, but it has a long way to go if it is to topple vodka as Britain’s favourite.
The Think Gin event, hosted by OLN in partnership with sister title Drinks International, will aim to raise the spirit’s profile among the trade and help spur it on to greater heights.
Guests will have the chance to sample a wide array of gins of varying styles, including the portfolios of our Think Gin partners and sponsors, and meet the faces and stories behind some of the most exciting brands taking the category forward in 2015.
Alongside the leading brands, Think Gin will showcase some excellent craft gins, including Mason’s Yorkshire Gin, Warner Edwards and Elephant Gin among many others.
A dedicated debate – Gin in the Off-Trade – will be hosted by OLN editor Rosie Davenport in the morning.
Speakers signed up include representatives from Waitrose, Hedonism Wines, The Good Spirits Company, Harrods, The Gin School and The Gin Guild.
News of further participants will be released in due course.
Topics due to be covered include the place of mainstream gin brands and how they can maintain their standing in the wake of increased competition from craft brands.
It will also focus on how craft gins can make a mark in an increasingly crowded and competitive market. Innovation, consumer engagement, innovations like RTD mixers, packaging, ranging and premiumisation are all topics that will also be covered.
