Symingtons set up online wine club

Two younger members of the Symington port dynasty have launched a UK-based online wine business.

Ant Symington (25) and cousin Louisa (27) are behind subscription service The Grape Club, which offers those signing up four pre-selected bottles delivered each month for £45.

The pair said the service is aimed at “helping the digital generation understand and appreciate great wine at a reasonable price”.

Each month’s wines will be chosen to fit a theme and bottles will come with a tasting note in “layman’s terms”.

Ant Symington said: “Louisa and I understand how time and money are issues which prevent people from taking up a hobby like enjoying good wine.

“With our family history and experience, our aim is that members can start to develop their understanding of wine through our monthly grape drop.”

Looking back to look forward

Wine is a liquid time capsule. Drinking older vintages not only recalls the weather conditions and winemaking styles of the past, it encourages us to reflect upon our own histories. Such reminiscence often inclines towards romanticised nostalgia. Especially after the second bottle. But looking back is a great way of learning about the future.
