Asda forced to recall exploding Prosecco bottles

Asda has been forced to recall its own-label Prosecco Spumante Extra Dry after bottles started exploding in stores and in customers’ homes.

The retailer asked shoppers to bring back bottles for a full refund on the £5.48 fizz.

It received two separate complaints from customers and said corks flew off and glass shattered in six different incidents in-store.

An apologetic spokesman said Asda would investigate the explosions and added: “It’s a small percentage of bottles that are affected but at this stage we don’t know what has caused the problem.

“The product is still on sale but no other lot code is affected.

“As a precaution Asda is recalling one particular batch due to a small number of bottles shattering.”

Rosé tinted glasses

I was asked recently what I thought the biggest change had been in wine fashion in the past five years. My answer was unequivocal: sales of pink wines. From being a niche that expanded and contracted with the sunshine, rosé has subtly but steadily become a stalwart of many merchants’ ranges, with Provence firmly at the top and asked for by name.
