Asda forced to recall exploding Prosecco bottles

23 October, 2014

Asda has been forced to recall its own-label Prosecco Spumante Extra Dry after bottles started exploding in stores and in customersí homes.

The retailer asked shoppers to bring back bottles for a full refund on the £5.48 fizz.

It received two separate complaints from customers and said corks flew off and glass shattered in six different incidents in-store.

An apologetic spokesman said Asda would investigate the explosions and added: ďItís a small percentage of bottles that are affected but at this stage we donít know what has caused the problem.

ďThe product is still on sale but no other lot code is affected.

ďAs a precaution Asda is recalling one particular batch due to a small number of bottles shattering.Ē

What makes wine special

Reaching the 50th instalment of Hemmingís Way is hardly the biggest milestone, but I donít need much of an excuse to pour myself a glass of champagne before getting dressed. Itís a better reason than I had for all 49 other instalments, anyway. Not that that stopped me.
