Ryder Cup inspires Scotch producer to relaunch McGibbon's

22 September, 2014

Scotch whisky producer Douglas Laing has relaunched its golf-inspired McGibbon’s range of whiskies in a bid to cash in on the impending Ryder Cup.

Scotland is the host nation as Rory McIlroy and his Europe teammates take on the USA in the biennial golf competition this week.

Douglas Laing decided it would be the perfect time to reintroduce the range, which includes a Special Reserve that has a bottle shaped like the 3-wood golf club and a Premium Reserve, which is shaped like a golf bag.

Both whiskies are bottled at 43% abv.

The Special Reserve has been matured in an inspired combination of first and second-fill Bourbon casks and an Oloroso sherry cask, giving rich flavours of burnt sugar, vanilla, sweet malt and runny honey.

The Premium Reserve Golf Bag has a high proportion of old malts and Oloroso sherry cask matured whisky, giving the taste of stewed fruits, creamy caramel, zesty orange and dark chocolate.

Managing Director and master blender Fred Laing said: “The timing is perfect as the Ryder Cup excitement builds and it is an ideal way of combining two of Scotland’s greatest passions – golf and Scotch Whisky.”

The Special Reserve retails at £44.99, while the Premium Reserve is £49.99, both for 50cl.

Donald Trump: the US has much to learn from history

The reasons Donald Trump should not be left in charge of a shopping trolley, let alone the keys to the White House, are plentiful and well-documented – from his use of the word “bigly” and lamentable business legacy to his dubious post-modern feminist principles, quite astonishing lack of political acumen and, most worrying of all, his bewildering hair.
