Team Cox heads to France for Medoc Marathon

Friends and family of the late Michael Cox have so far raised more than £13,000 for drinks industry charity The Benevolent after pledging to run the Medoc Marathon in his honour.

Team Cox will pound the streets of Bordeaux, while eating and drinking wine at various pit stops throughout the gruelling 26.2-mile race, on Saturday.

The team includes Peter Richards MW, Susie Barrie MW, Lynne Cox, Eduardo Chadwick, Francisco Baettig, Andres Izquierdo, Alvaro Arriagado, Greg Sherwood MW, Richard Dare and Vicky Thompson.

Twin brother David Cox, chief executive of the charity, will Tweet from the sidelines.

All money raised will go to members of the drinks industry that have fallen on hard times.

English wine: a happy harvest for Christmas

All across England and Wales, vineyards are being harvested. Down winding country lanes come armies of welly-wearing conscripts wielding secateurs and buckets, ready to reap the rewards of our vines. Happily they come, their cheeks ruddy with pride. Half an hour later they’re crawling over muddy clods with lacerated hands, drenched in claggy juice and cold sweat, as if ploughing through an endurance race.
