Off Licence News has teamed up with consultant and former Wine Australia boss Hazel Murphy to offer independents the chance to join a two-week trip Down Under.

Retailers will visit Tasmania, the Adelaide Hills and the Barossa Valley as well as experiencing the buzz of Melbourne – known for world- class dining and wine retailing.

The trip will depart on February 6, 2015, and in addition to a host of top wine producers, regional tastings and masterclasses, retailers will also meet Tasmanian whisky producers in Hobart and craft brewers to give them an immersive picture of the country’s diverse drinks scene.

The programme has been designed to educate, enlighten and enthuse retailers about Australia and its array of undiscovered wines, as well as enabling them to meet trailblazing producers and visit some of the wine world’s most iconic estates.

After exploring some of Adelaide Hills’ 40 cellar doors, experiencing vintage time in the Barossa Valley and getting to know the Rieslings, Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs of Tasmania, retailers will have time to explore and soak up Australia’s unique atmosphere at their own pace.

Only 12 places are available for this once-in-a-lifetime trip, generously supported by the three regions. Key producers have also made a significant contribution to make it possible for retailers to attend and demonstrate why their products suit vibrant UK independents.

The cost of the trip is £1,795 per person, including all international and internal flights, accommodation, transport and meals, plus masterclasses, winery trips, retail and restaurant visits. Early-bird booking is encouraged to secure a place and to guarantee the specially negotiated flight prices which are included, with all the other costs, in the £1,795.

It’s all true. Wine writers loaf around in a state of partial inebriation and partial undress, bitching about having to taste free wine all day and using recondite words like malolactic, terroir and recondite.
