New venture launches crowd-funded beer

29 August, 2014

A new business is set to launch a limited edition craft beer financed by a crowd-funding initiative.

Crafted & Distilled is the brainchild of Caroline Holtum, editor of the Guardian’s sustainable business website, and David Willans, marketing director of sustainability communications agency Futerra.

The company has created The Fairy Feller’s Master-Stroke, a limited edition 5.5% nut-brown ale brewed with chestnuts by Peter Hayden at London’s Florence pub.

A small batch of the beer will available exclusively through Ales by Mail from this month.

Willans said: “At Crafted & Distilled we’re fascinated by stories, history and flavours. The Fairy Feller’s Master-Stroke crowd-funding campaign is the first in a series that will see us work with craft brewers to create limited-edition craft beers that have brilliant stories behind them.

“We believe a craft beer tastes better when you know the story behind it, especially when you understand how the brewer was inspired and are shown how dedicated they are to their craft.”

Ales By Mail managing director Paul Kruzycki said: “After the initial round of funding, we were delighted to step in and get the project over the line and partner with them to manage the distribution to initial backers and interested beer lovers.”

English wine: a happy harvest for Christmas

Half an hour later they’re crawling over muddy clods with lacerated hands, drenched in claggy juice and cold sweat, as if ploughing through an endurance race.
