Nederburg launches 56 Hundred brand

26 August, 2014

South African wine producer Distell has added two wines under the name 56 Hundred to its Nederburg portfolio in the UK.

The Pinot Noir and Pinot Grigio wines are being launched into grocery this week and have a listing in Tesco at an rrp of £7.99.

The wines were specially developed for the UK consumer and based on the popularity of those two grapes in the market.

The name is based on the price in guilders paid in 1791 by Nederburg founder Philippus Wolvaart for the land that was to become the estate.

International marketing manager Rachel Hawes said: “The new wines have been crafted to mirror his pioneering spirit, patience and care.

“Pinot Noir and Pinot Grigio are two of the UK’s favourite wines and we wanted to ensure Nederburg wine drinkers could access these popular varieties from a brand they know and trust.”
