Stormhoek Stack comprises four 18.7cl stemless glasses piled on top of each other using what Origin calls “Stack Tek” technology.
It said the four glasses are “heat-sealed with peal-back foil lids and the entire stack is held together with a shrink sleeve label that has a tear-strip ‘zip’ for easy opening”.
Managing director Bernard Fontannaz said: “The unique Stack Tek technology offers consumers the convenience of a non-breakable, single-serve glass of wine while retaining the elevated image of wine in a stylish glass.
“The Stormhoek Stack provides consumers with a practical, emotional and environmental benefit whilst enjoying their favourite wine wherever they choose and provides a unique point of difference at social occasions.”
The material used is said to look and feel like glass but is 50% lighter, shatterproof, recyclable and offers a shelf life of 96 weeks.
Origin is launching the concept initially in one variety – Stormhoek Stack Chardonnay – and it is available now in selected Tesco stores with an rrp of £7.49.
