Waitrose adds distillers' dozen to whiskey range

02 July, 2014

Waitrose is upping the ante in imported whiskey in response to a surge of interest from its shoppers.

The chain is adding 12 whiskeys from around the world to its portfolio after seeing sales of American whiskey rise 39% in the space of a year, while Irish whiskey has increased by 22%.

The new additions include single malts from Japan, Taiwan, Sweden and India, and small batch bourbons.

Spirits buyer Herchelle Perez Terrado said: “One of the reasons whiskey is so popular is the huge amount of variety found between different distilleries, ages and countries.

“Our customers love exploring spirits from different countries and will relish the opportunity to try a whiskey from an unexpected whiskey-producing country such as Sweden.”
