Friuli producer chooses Winetraders for UK push

11 June, 2014

Italian wine producer Borgo del Tiglio has signed a distribution deal with the importer which first represented it in the UK almost 20 years ago.

The Friuli-based wine firm has linked up with Winetraders UK and its managing director Michael Palij MW to handle a varietal range which includes Malvasia, Friulano, Riesling and Chardonnay.

Borgo del Tiglio owner Nicola Manferrari sad: “We already know we work well together and we’re looking forward to a successful working relationship with him once again.”

Winetraders’ buyer Frank Embleton added: “Winetraders belief is that Italy is currently the most interesting wine producer in the world thanks to the unique combination of grape varieties, terroir and native creativity.

“Our portfolio has grown considerably in recent months, but Borgo del Tiglio is undoubtedly the most strategic addition.

“Most Friulian wines are over-priced but the quality of theses wines is just exceptional.”

Palij said that Manferrari’s attention to detail helped the wines stand out. “In the vineyard, each varietal is sited exactly where it stands the best chance of delivering a virtuoso performance,” he said.

English wine: a happy harvest for Christmas

All across England and Wales, vineyards are being harvested. Down winding country lanes come armies of welly-wearing conscripts wielding secateurs and buckets, ready to reap the rewards of our vines. Happily they come, their cheeks ruddy with pride. Half an hour later they’re crawling over muddy clods with lacerated hands, drenched in claggy juice and cold sweat, as if ploughing through an endurance race.
