Fells adds Barolo producer to portfolio

Ratti: targeting independents

John E Fells has added Barolo producer Renato Ratti to its portfolio.

The range includes the original Barolo Marcenasco DOCG, the single-vineyards Barolo Conca and Rocche Dell’ Annunziata, along with various Nebbiolo and Barbera wines.  

Steve Moody, Fells managing director, said: “We are delighted to welcome Renato Ratti to our fold, a very special family-owned producer which sits nicely in our portfolio, we will take them under our wing and introduce its outstanding collection of Barolos, Nebbiolo and Barberas to the trade.”

It joins a line-up that includes Cockburns, Graham’s, Dow’s & Warre’s, Blandy’s, Torres, Guigal, Bouchard Pere & Fils, William Fevre, Hugel, de LaDoucette, Janneau, Chartreuse, Tyrrell’s, Torbreck, Barone Ricasoli, Jackson Family Wines, Wente, Te Mata, Seifried, Warwick Estate, Vilafonte, Vergelegen, Trapiche, Chakana and Barbadillo.

Pietro Ratti, owner and son of founder Renato Ratti, said: “We are very pleased to be working with Fells, whose expertise will help us to extend our presence in the specialist, independent and on-trade channels in the UK market.”

Rosé tinted glasses

I was asked recently what I thought the biggest change had been in wine fashion in the past five years. My answer was unequivocal: sales of pink wines. From being a niche that expanded and contracted with the sunshine, rosé has subtly but steadily become a stalwart of many merchants’ ranges, with Provence firmly at the top and asked for by name.
