Rumfest 2014 targets trade with education day

Rum ambassador Ian Burrell will impart his knowledge of the rum industry to spirits buyers and wholesalers in a trade-only event the day before Rumfest 2014.

The rum festival takes place at London’s ILEC on October 11-12, but it is trying to attract more trade visitors and has launched the Rum Experience University On The Road event on October 10.

Burrell runs a four-day course at his “rum university” in Andalucia and he will aim to compress this course into the day.

Tickets for the main event cost £49.95 and guests can taste 400 different blends from around the.

Seminars, masterclasses and workshops will take place across both days as brand ambassadors educate visitors about “the wonders of this historic, diverse and brilliant spirit”.

Burrell said: “This year’s Rumfest sees a welcome move to celebrate the changes we are seeing within the category with a rise in the premiumisation of rum and it's growing popularity.

“The Rumfest aims to help embrace these developments by providing an opportunity for industry and consumers to experience something extra special and giving these rums the platform to showcase these changes.”
