Wine Society names new buyer

07 February, 2014

Amathus buyer Sarah Knowles has joined the Wine Society.

She will take on buying for Australia, New Zealand and some other areas for the company.

Knowles joins the Wine Society’s seven-strong team of Pierre Mansour, Sebastian Payne MW, Joanna Locke MW, Marcel Orford-Williams, Toby Morrhall, Mark Buckenham and head of buying Tim Sykes.

Sykes said: “We look forward to welcoming Sarah to our team. Her experience as a buyer and her achievement in expanding the wine range of Amathus, both wholesale and retail, plus her flair for quality, makes her an excellent addition to the team.”

The Wine Society is a mutual which sells only to its members, with no outside shareholders.

Looking back to look forward

Wine is a liquid time capsule. Drinking older vintages not only recalls the weather conditions and winemaking styles of the past, it encourages us to reflect upon our own histories. Such reminiscence often inclines towards romanticised nostalgia. Especially after the second bottle. But looking back is a great way of learning about the future.
