Premium addition for Les Dauphins

Rhône producer Cellier des Dauphins has added a premium “cru” level, rrp £9.99, to its Les Dauphins brand.

Les Dauphins Cru des Côtes du Rhône 2012 will be released at France Under One Roof on March 3.

The wine comes from Vinsobres, one of 14 Rhône villages to be granted “cru” status because of the high quality of their wines.

Winemaker Thierry Walet has described the wine as “rich, spicy, well-structured and full-flavoured”.

Richard Evans, director of supplier Dedicated Wines, said: “The new Les Dauphins ‘cru’ level wine offers consumers equal quality to Châteauneuf du Pape, but at a fraction of the price. We are excited by this innovative addition to the Les Dauphins brand which, since launch in 2011, has far exceeded all of our expectations in terms of sales and consumer response.”

Rosé tinted glasses

I was asked recently what I thought the biggest change had been in wine fashion in the past five years. My answer was unequivocal: sales of pink wines. From being a niche that expanded and contracted with the sunshine, rosé has subtly but steadily become a stalwart of many merchants’ ranges, with Provence firmly at the top and asked for by name.
