Mezcal range launched by Cask Liquid Marketing

Spirits agency firm Cask Liquid Marketing has launched a range of mezcals created by a TV executive and chef.

Melanie Symonds opened London’s pop-up Qui Qui Ri Qui mezcal bar beneath a Hackney kebab shop in September and has now produced two mezcals under the same name.

Symonds worked on TV food and drink programmes for 10 years and has extensive experience in the hospitality industry.

She said: “It’s been a labour of love to get these two ready for the market but it’s been worth it.

“I want to help educate the market to explore how delicious mezcal can be in cocktails or drunk neat, and offer quality at a price that makes them accessible.”

Qui Qui Ri Qui means cock-a-doodle-do and the range’s Matatlan and San Juan Del Rio styles take their names from the villages in which they are made in the Mexican state of Oaxaca.

Both are made by family producers in 100% Espadin agave.

They are available wholesale through Speciality Drinks and have a retail listing with Vintage House in London’s Soho.

The Cask Liquid Marketing portfolio includes Ocho tequila, Mare gin and King’s Ginger.

Wine is a liquid time capsule. Drinking older vintages not only recalls the weather conditions and winemaking styles of the past, it encourages us to reflect upon our own histories. Such reminiscence often inclines towards romanticised nostalgia. Especially after the second bottle. But looking back is a great way of learning about the future.
