SIBA lines up second Beer X festival

01 November, 2013

The Society of Independent Brewers is to hold its second Beer X event in Sheffield from March 11-15, 2014.

Beer X aims to bring together brewers, retailers, hop growers, barley farmers, suppliers, politicians and drinkers in an event combining a cask, keg and bottled beer festival, the judging for the National Beer Competition, the presentation of SIBA’s own awards and an industry day.

Speakers at the industry day will include Fuller’s head brewer John Keeling, Roger Ryman of St Austell and Nicky Morgan, the economic secretary to the Treasury.

SIBA chief executive Julian Grocock said: “Beer X 2013 was a huge success and we are confident that the 2014 event will be even better.

“Our goal is to present British beer at its best to a wide ranging audience, from industry veterans who will be engaged by our top flight speakers, to new or growing brewers who will learn from our seminars and from the invaluable opportunities to network with their peers, to drinkers – beer enthusiasts and novices alike.”

He added, “SIBA is the only organisation which could credibly stage an event that brings together so many different groups, each with a different perspective on British beer but united in their love for it and desire to see it prosper.”

Tickets for Beer X 2014 go on sale in January but you can register interest at siba.co.uk/beerx.

Welcoming the wine rookie

It’s all true. Wine writers loaf around in a state of partial inebriation and partial undress, bitching about having to taste free wine all day and using recondite words like malolactic, terroir and recondite.
